so today, i am back from my retreat.
we decide to head out to the henry ford musuem
they have just opened this new exhibit and i had
to get a look see!
(sorry pic is tiny)
it was cool to see all the costumes they had there ,
and well me being me i had to take a very CLOSE look
at how some of them were made and out of what
fabric!
surprisingly alot done out of very available
fabric, and simply made...not the silliness the
pattern companies have you think its done!
i think the thing that struck me the most is the
wicked witch's hat from the wizard of oz
its the first thing you see when you come in the room
its very simple, black velvet, with a chiffon
scarf tied at the base of the cone.
as i walked around the exhibit i thought about it
these very cool items all started out as simple
fabric and an idea. probably the most impressive was
the darth vader costume and the obi wan kenobi
robe~can't help it, i am a geek!
the ghostbusters car and dan akryod's ghost busting
jumpsuit, jim carrey's suit from batman, the original
burt ward robin costume~the shirt base is just a
plain green t-shirt, the batmobile from the movie
with michael keaton and so much more.
i love going to the henry ford and greenfield village
everytime i go i see something different!
we were curious where the reagan presidental car
was, mark speculated that they were dropping a
new engine in it for the upcoming new president,
one of the docents told us they were getting the glass
replaced in the windshield so guests could get a
better look inside......and hey if you are ever
wondering where the oscar meijer weinermobile is
they have it there!
so back to the exhibit i went to see, its just fabric
or is it, the movie makers do such a great job
making us feel things when we see it. along with
music and dialog, they come to life.
it's not just a hat.....it's magic.
oh and tonight...we are going to the village for the halloween walk
scary.......(i'll post with pics later!)
