whats on the sticks?

  what am i knitting now you ask.....well i am working on this....

 

what is it you ask? well its going to be a shawl for me! the color is great its by schaeffer yarn company called toni morrison...the colorway is detroit tiger colors so i am calling it "restore the roar shawl"! lynn gave me this yarn for my birthday and i have been waiting for the right time to use it!  i did discover the joys of addi turbo circular needles and i love them. i do have a pair of clover bamboo circulars which i am never going to touch again i don't like them at all. here is another picture of the yarn, i may have to get another skein but i don't care this is going to be pretty.

 

please don't mind the little beagle dog hairs i have them everywhere...sam is shedding like mad these days!

here are some other things i have actually finished....

  

just a fun little scarf made out of some fabulous clearance yarn i found in lansing this past summer. i was first going to make a water bottle holder but then realized i had more than i thought and decided to keep going!

here is a very very warm scarf i made this past month...

  

its made out of some great yarn i got in chicago this past spring at nina's yarn shop in wicker park. i only got one skein( i know naughty me) so my sister picked up another for me a few months ago. i think what i am going to do with this is get a nice big button and use it to keep it closed,,,,,a third skein would have made it a longer length but its going to be pretty with the button!

ok tomorrow i shall work on quilts and knit,,,,its the new year

how sam spent the day after christmas

poor sammy, after spending the afternoon with the family yesterday he was soooooooooooo tired! he played so hard with his cousin roxy , who was fashionably dressed in the latest christmas canine fashion( i didn't get a picture of her), they ran and ran and ate and ate. towards the end of the night sam started barking at something outside....

ok weird for two reasons...

sam doesn't bark unless he is chasing baby squirrels  or he is asleep dreaming about chasing them

and he was looking into the dark back yard.......hahahaha he was barking at his reflection!

so here he is all bundled up today,,,it was so icy this morning he was not participating in doing anything!

ok its been a while.....

ok so its been a while since i was a bit creative so today i thought i needed to finish this necklace... 

i bought the pewter charm in frankenmuth from bead haven there(oh what a wicked lovely shop that is) i love these charms i have a few now, but this one i bought for lynn.

 

what i love about these charms are they have a message on the back...the turtle one i have to still make something with says "sink or swim"...hehe

i fashioned this out of waxed irish linen, the pewter charm, labradorite and wood beads....its simple but i didn't want anything to take away from the charm...

holiday happenings

well its the day after , i can hear  pelting on the side of the house. just enjoyed a cup of cherry tea and some of my favorite cookies my mom baked for me. watching sam sleep and catching a cool movies on independent film channel "endless summer 2"~for some odd reason i have always been fascinated by surfing, can't do it but i love to watch it!

yesterday was fun, we slept late, had a yummy breakfast. went to mom and dad's for dinner and celebrations. both nieces came home for the holidays, we played with the new wii game my sister got for her and her boyfriend( i totally kick butt at wii bowling), made fun of each other, laughed, ate way too much, watched the dogs play together, and cried, i even saw my dad with tears in his eyes of the true gratitude that we all showed and felt for their gifts and love that they always show us~even if at times we don't first understand meanings behind it we all eventually get it.

the highlight of the night came when my dad gave my mom a diamond ring...of course the last gift of the night, the only thing up to this point was a snowman pin he gave her and i KNOW she was thinking 'you jerk is this it?" haha not so mom. he even put it on her ring finger and gave her a not seen often public kiss. her original wedding ring set had to be cut off her finger when she broke it many years ago and has never had it fixed.

i am not much of a wine drinker but this stuff is awesome and my sister knew i love it and well whats better than wine and yarn i ask you?

   

erika, dad, and andrea enjoying some laughs and all glad to be together for the day~and a bonus erika's flight from denver was on time!

 

these poor angels get abused every holiday...of course they are supposed to say "noel" but we always change it to "leon"....remember the old line from airplane "leon's getting larger" for some reason we have done this for at least 20 years ...and when erika was little she used to call all these little dust collectors my mom has all over "sugar buns" she was an interesting little girl with a vivid imagination!

so thats what i have to show you all so far....on a sad note, a very nice man at our work passed away on christmas eve...rest in peace doug~you were loved by so many of us.

this is frank the cat

he resides at my friend mark's house , where he and his lovely wife mary have adventures with him

mary was getting ready to decorate the tree last week, when suddenly frank popped out of the middle

of it! perhaps he thought he was popping out of a birthday cake?

mark told me there are many more frank stories to tell.... i can't wait!

the current goings on at their house beside frank's antics are some racoon's that have decided to

have nightly parties in their attic....oh the stories about those are funny...lets just say live traps were

used and they were released back into the wild,,,,,near the franklin cider mill,,,lucky dogs those

donuts are GOOD!

so here is frank in all his christmas glory!

they are saying a storm is coming

thats right metro detroit is supposed to get slammed today/tonight by this time tomorrow they are saying almost a foot of snow to fall...egads. that will make driving fun, for being the motor city they should reteach driving in snow 101 every fall around here...just because you have an suv doesn't mean its an army tank slow down!!!

ok enough of that rant

here is a photo for you today of my dad's cabin last month after a little snow storm they had while there, i spent most of my childhood summers here (well a week or so out of the summer) and its about a six hour drive from here so the last time i was there was oh gosh about 8 years ago...i know shameful! i am making it a goal to get there this coming year...i miss the woods...the lake....the crazy relatives there....

what i do at the karoeoke bar....

when mark and i go out to the bar for him to sing karoeoke i try and find fun things for me to do , seeing i don't sing and baseball is over for now....so last night when we were out i made a quick stop into the bookstore to get something to read,,,,so this is what i did while he sang, and he sings very well!

 

that's right ....quilting arts magazine...good articles this month!...i played keno (and won $2!)...and had an unbelievable meal at the starting gate in northville michigan,,,,followed by a tastey yummy slice of white chocolate peppermint cheesecake!

mark doesn't seem to mind me bringing something to read either, he usually asks me about the quilts in the magazine or techniques ...and even occasionally how my art is coming along...its a win/win night out i'd say.

120 days....

until what  you ask......

 

until the detroit tigers home opener! why the excitement you ask,,,,,well that means most of the snow is gone and the cold weather is mostly gone. so i shall have my goal~baseball season will start again , other things will be on their way to their respective goals.

now the only thing that remains to be seen for that goal of 120 days to go is : will jim edmonds play this year and where???

oh and if anyone wants a really good night~get down to the ballgame, enjoy an italian sausage dog and an ice cold pop...don't forget the french fries.....and if you are smart, park at the greektown casino(its FREE) then walk up to the park(a short two blocks) and on the way back to the car you accomplish two things...the crowd getting to the freeway will be thinned out by the time you get on there ...especially when you stop at astoria pastry shop for an after-game snack! ~may i suggest a tasty chocolate chip cookie , or if you are really wanting something fabulous~ a red velvet cupcake...oh my to die for!

yep i know this is not fiber related....well not really but i do plan on bringing knitting there with me this coming year!!!
